Financial
Peace University is a
Small Group Study to help people manage their finances from a Biblical
perspective. Classes meet for two hours per week for 13 weeks, beginning
in June. There is some home work. Child Care will be provided.
For more information
contact the church office or andylong@easilink.com.
What is
It is not a
verse-by-verse study of Scripture, but it applies Bible principles to everyday
problems.
Each group meets
one day per week for two hours. The
first hour is a video teaching presentation by Dave Ramsey, a Nationally known talk radio host. The second hour is a workbook group question
and answer session. There are also some
personal homework assignments to design your personal plans and goals that can
take 10-20 minutes per week.
Who should attend
The class is
presented to benefit both young and old, wealthy or
financially distressed, from all income levels.
Each student will assess their own needs and gain their own
understanding of how God wants them to address their particular challenges.
Some typical
challenges for various families are as follows:
·
A
young couple in their 20’s and 30’s will develop a plan to save for their
children’s college education without borrowing.
·
A
family in their 40’s and 50’s will develop a plan to save for their retirement
and old age care without depending on their children
·
A
retired couple in their 60’s and 70’s will develop a plan to leave a legacy
that will change the lives of their grandchildren, their church family and
their community.
·
A
family struggling with credit cards and too much debt will learn the tools of
managing their income to become debt free.
·
A
family with wealth will learn the obligation of stewardship and using that
wealth for the work of God’s Kingdom.
·
ALL
students will learn how to control the resources they have and avoid “Crisis
Management” that steals your “Financial Peace”.
·
Husbands
and wives will talk together about financial issues that they frequently avoid
discussing.
How do I sign up
for the class?
You can fill out
one of the boxes in the attached Sign Up sheet (along with three of your
friends) and get it back to Andy Long.
You can also go to www.daveramsey.com and find the box “Looking for Dave’s Class in your
area” button. Enter your zip code, click
“submit”, and the local classes will be displayed. Classes will be offered at 8th and
Harrison Church of Christ beginning the first week of June 2010.
What is the cost
of attending FPU?
The student class
material and the license to use the program costs $99 per family. We understand that many people in financial
distress may not have the $99 to pay for their student kit, therefore;
WE will make the
following GUARANTEE:
You can write a check to “Eighth & Harrison Church of Christ” dated
·
If you
complete at least 11 of the 13 lessons, you can gladly have your check back,
destroy the check, and the class and materials will cost you nothing.
·
If
you drop out, you keep the materials, but we will cash your check.
·
The
purpose is to get you to attend. God
doesn’t need your money. He owns the
cattle on a thousand hills and will get along without your $99. We want you to “have something invested” in
this activity.
What if I am
absent from a session due to illness or work requirement?
·
You
can borrow the DVD, watch it at home, complete the workbook section, and show
the coordinator that you have ‘made-up’ the class.
Will I have to
reveal personal information about my income or my finances?
·
NO! Your plan can be between you and God. No one else needs to know the details.
·
As a group accountability, you may be asked in class about
whether you have completed various parts of your written plan. This can give others a general idea of your
finances.
·
Some
group discussion and some group projects frequently encourage personal
testimony which members voluntarily reveal in an effort to receive support and
encouragement from others in the class.
Persons who
attended a previous FPU class are encouraged to attend again in this class at
no charge. The DVD’s have been updated
(much better) and you will enjoy the fellowship of seeing others gain financial
wisdom.
When does the
class meet?
The ideal group size is 6 to 12
husband/wife families. The first six
families that sign up will choose the day and time of their class. Example:
Sunday
What family
members should attend?
·
If
you are single or single parent head of household and have your own income, you
will do your own plan.
·
If
you are married, it is very important to your marriage that both husband and
wife attend together. If you have
children under the age of 12, you can bring them to the building and paid child
care will be provided so that you can both devote full attention to the class.
·
If
you are married and have teenage children, they are welcome to join you in the
class activities as part of your family.
Can others than “
